Salvation through love

A young girl is rescued from drugs through gospel work together with homeless in the region of Cracolândia, in São Paulo

“I spent six years in Cracolândia, enslaved of drugs and addictions”, tells the young Stephany Medeiros da Silva, 19. “I left home when I was thirteen and since then, I lived in the streets addicted to drugs, which was my only feeding”, she confesses, whose weight was forty kilos at that time. “I drank alcoholic drinks and used drugs night and day for seven years. I didn`t have time for that; I wasn`t happy; I tried to commit suicide; I was completely desperate; I wasn`t hopeful for a better life or different one.”

Stephany`s aunt, Josilene Medeiros Herculana, says that while Stephany was away from her family, she and her mother sought God for her life. “We sought, and we never gave up, we waited for any kind of news about her; we would like to know what had happened to her, some news which would bring peace to our heart. Our request with God was to find her well, alive, and happy”.

It was one of AMAS` welfare work – Associacão Mundial de Assistência Social (worldwide welfare association) – where Stephany lived her experience with Jesus Christ. “They took us, homeless, some soup, clothes and food. They also took folders, books, and testimonials, praise, and words of love and hope to us in the name of Jesus”, reports Stephany, who was converted due to the Gospel work performed by AMAS together with those donations. “I received my deliverance on that day, at the moment I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and I decided I would never use drugs any more in m y life. God gave me strength and delivered me. Today, I`m baptized in the water; I get along with my relatives; I have such a life condition that I would never think I would have, and I am happy. Now, I help preaching and with the work performed in the streets, and I tell everyone not to give up of your relatives, keep seeking in their favor because God is faithful and makes miracles in your family`s life.”
