Underworld of drugs arrests youth for 14 years

In the narrow and obscure alleys of the outskirts of the city of São Paulo, Lucas Gabriel da Silva, 26, gave the first drink. The action of the substance in his body relieved his confused thoughts and the feeling of being lost in himself. With no plans or hope, he headed straight into the underworld with drugs. Lucas was only 12 when he experimented with the first semi-synthetic drug - artificially produced in the laboratory with components obtained from nature; among the best known are crack cocaine and heroin. Unfortunately, he is not alone. Statics are alarming. Data from the National School Health Survey (PeNSE) conducted by the Ministries of Health and Education in partnership with IBGE show that the percentage of Brazilian adolescents who have used illicit drugs increased from 7.3% to 9%. The phase is significant since in this period they are formed part of the habits and values that will be carried to the adult age.

Experts believe that emotional frailty and lack of defined identity are among the factors that contribute to young people's penchant for drug use.
