The excerpt of 1 Samuel 17.24 tells us how men ran away from Goliath. All of us, occasionally, face giants, those who challenge and confront us; I mean, those who seem to be big and strong. Goliath didn`t show fear due to his height and strength. He believed he was the best warrior among all of the other ones who feared him. That man kept challenging others who were able to face him.
That man was a problem, Goliath was strong, big, had experience, but he was just a man like any other. He bled, was hungry, was thirsty and had limits. Devil, likewise Goliath before us, challenge, insult us, trying to make us afraid and run away. People from Israel were afraid of Goliath.
The king, watching Goliath, offered him wealth, prize and his daughter`s hand to whom could defeat Goliath. The person would become noble and his family would be delivered from tax paying. The king did everything to make people willing and - stimulated with wealth, assets, and privileges - be courageous enough to fight against Goliath. Not even so there was a man. The soldiers and mercenaries didn`t want to because all of the wealth wasn`t worthy if they were dead. However, in Israel there was a man who accepted this challenge. He was a shepherd called David. He didn`t use any sword, he had a sling of stones without being a military officer. Soldiers risk their lives in combat, but none of them wanted to risk their lives before Goliath. David came forward as soon as he knew about the challenge against Goliath. The Philistine didn`t care about David, like so many times and with so many situations and people, we are ignored. Devil may say the same to you, but never lower your head to the devil, he is wrong because you belong to God. God is always with you. Goliath was also wrong, he didn`t know what he was about to face. He ignored and even cursed David. David didn`t have any experience in combat indeed. He didn`t have any qualification to assure his victory either. But, he was faithful and it`s enough for you to get wherever you want to. David fought against Goliath in the name of the living God and said that he would cut the head of Goliath and he didn`t have any sword. Men look for favorable conditions, but we, who live the faith, don`t behave that way. We know God gives us the victory. Exactly when it`s difficult, impossible, it`s the right moment to get into the fight in order to make everybody aware that He is God through the impossible. David ran towards the problem and only faith does it. He wasn`t cautious nor kept distant, preparing some evasion, he ran towards him. He threw the stone and it hit Goliath`s forehead. Goliath could have deviated or gotten his shield, but he didn`t even see what hit him. The stone hit him so strongly - not the stone from David, but the stone from God that he served – that made him fall down like a stone on the ground. David got closer to Goliath, he launched himself on the Philistine, got his sword and cut his head, like the attitude we should have before what we wish. Even if you become afraid, hesitate, because likewise you see a giant falling down in other`s people`s lives, you will see it in your own life. Come forward as people came. The hero of Philistines fell, your problem will fall too in the name of the Lord of the Army. David was given richness, got married to the princess and the family of Jesse didn`t pay tax anymore. David became the hero of Israel. God wants to turn you into a hero in your family and at work too, in order to make people see and admire you. God is looking for heroes of faith. David didn`t have qualifications to become a hero, but God turned him into one. A courageous behavior may change your life. David didn`t have any conditions, but God provided him with. God was the One who guided that stone. Like Goliath, the giant of the crisis will fall. You have just to be courageous to collect victories in your career.
