Nehemiah was a butler; his job was to serve wine to the king. He tried it before the king and if it weren`t poisoned, he would give it to him. We got to know Nehemiah through prayers and attitudes. The prayer is powerful, and if you knew about this power, you would pray much more. Taking into accounts what happened to Nehemiah, you and I receive a lot of bad news, which make us think them over and cry. In Nehemiah chapter 1, he received one of his brothers, Hanani. He had a good job, but not a prestigious position or influence. When he saw his brother, He hurried up to ask about how people were. He got to know that some turned into captive and those who remained there underwent much misery and disdain. It was bad news mainly to those who want to get to know about the related ones, friends, and acquaintances as Nehemiah and he became very sad at it. It`s inevitable that we become sad at those conditions. If you observe Nehemiah`s social and financial situation as well as his influence, he couldn`t do anything to help besides what he did: fast and pray to the King of Heaven. When you shut up, it's your business, but when you pray, the problem becomes God`s. Nehemiah presented himself fasting and praying in favor of those people. After fasting and praying, Nehemiah embarked on a journey and, about 90 days, he turned already into governor and rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem. Translating: When I prayed and fasted, while my family was trapped, with my people ruined, starving, I was nobody, was the butler of the king, but God heard me. God does not hear by the social position or purchasing power, degree of education, race, color, age, God hears by faith. Even a butler can change the history of a nation.

Be a janitor, be a servant, be a doctor, lawyer, judge, pastor, God hears when someone prays with all his heart. You, who feel small, your prayer has a lot of strength. Angels in heaven are at your disposal.

Nehemiah confessed his sins, but he prayed knowing that he was God's people, that even if he were dirty, he would not stop being God's people. We are a people washed and redeemed in the blood of the lamb. Our prayer and fast touch the heart of God. When Nehemiah acted, the devil questioned him who he was, but a measly butler, but God made him and He will continue this way and show his power in our midst, in our favor. We question whether we have the right, if it is possible, that`s the point where we deceive ourselves because when we pray and fast to God, everything changes. Nehemiah had no right to send a message to the king, nor his own resources to react. He had never shown sadness before that day and the king recognized the sadness in his countenance. Nehemiah had reason and shared it with the king, who asked him what he wanted. Before answering, Nehemiah prayed. Then Nehemiah asked to rebuild his city, Jerusalem. He was just a butler, but he was too brave, he believed in prayers and fasting. Alone, Nehemiah made the project of how to rebuild the city. As the king allowed him, he said what he needed. As Nehemiah prayed and fasted before, God worked on the King's heart and Nehemiah was given what he asked for because the good hand of God was with him. Nehemiah recognized God's work; he understood that it was the Lord who made the king treat him so well. Enemies and opponents started to show up when Nehemiah's trip began, because they discovered that Nehemiah wanted the best to the people and rebuilt the city. When you seek the best and some who are evil find it out, they come to work against you. They will appear and suggest you to give up. Ignore them, and focus on God. Those enemies, more influential ones began to mock him, work against Nehemiah and things got so complicated that they came to need to work with one hand and hold the sword in the other. Sometimes we go through the same condition, which means not giving up on our projects and designs. Work in the work of God and trust in His word, in the Bible that is our sword, just lower your head to God. Nehemiah carried out a project, an impossible dream to a man so meaningless, unknown and insignificant. Butler came to be governor. He was a man of attitude, of fasting and praying, a man who trusted God. Those who trust God, if they do not fail to trust it will be impossible for you to be defeated. They can fight against you, set you up, try to destroy your projects, your lives, your dreams, but if you keep trusting, always praying and fasting to the God of heaven, what you have designed, God will deliver in your hands. Nehemiah received from God his project as reality even with sad news, a place full of rubble and debris, with no room to walk, with an impossible goal, with nothing to offer, no promise to give and no resource. Even if we do not have resources, we have the King who grants us letters, permits that in any city we need to go or projects that we want to restore, rebuild, like Nehemiah, to make that happen we have to have faith, trust as Nehemiah trusted. If you have a project, you will succeed as Nehemiah did.
